  • Jimmy G. Carter, Jr. has dedicated his adult life to serving others in a variety of arenas. Today he is an experienced attorney and advocate of his client’s rights in business, criminal, and family law. Jimmy has successfully utilized the tools of the trade including negotiation, mediation, and litigation to attain favorable resolution for his clients.

    Clients have described Jimmy as being “knowledgeable and confident in the court room”, that he “kept us informed”, and in being “honest and compassionate” while dealing with very serious matters in his clients lives. Jimmy is able to work with clients through all aspects of their legal action, explaining their options, answering questions, and offering advice on the best course of action. Jimmy is one of the few attorneys in Knoxville that is certified in the collaborative divorce process. With this process, Jimmy is able to help clients equitably settle all aspects related to divorce without the time and expense of litigation. He is an active and founding member of East Tennessee Collaborative Alliance. Jimmy is also a Rule 31 Certified Mediator.

    Jimmy grew up in Chattanooga and Knoxville, Tennessee, and graduated from Karns High School. He attended The University of Tennessee Knoxville where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Jimmy was a firefighter with the Karns Volunteer Fire Department from 1990 until 1999 where he served as President of the Department from 1997-1998 and on the Board of Directors from 2004-2009. In 1998, he attended Roane State Community College where he became a Nationally Registered Paramedic and was named the Roane State Paramedic of the Year. He worked in the Emergency Services field from 1995 until 2003. While living in the Baltimore/Washington area for six years, Jimmy was the Director of Operations for the largest private ambulance service in that region. Jimmy attended Lincoln Memorial Duncan School of Law and graduated in May 2013 as part of the inaugural class. Upon graduation he was awarded the President Abraham Lincoln Pro Bono Award. While earning his Juris Doctorate at Lincoln Memorial, he was president of the Mock Trial Team and served as student representative on the Academic Integrity Committee. He was also a student representative for the law school on the TBA Access to Justice Committee. Jimmy served as a law clerk for the Honorable Bill Swann in one of the busiest circuit courts in the state while attending law school, as well as interning with Legal Aid of East Tennessee at the Family Justice Center.

    Jimmy lives in Knoxville with his wife, Kristi, and their two sons, Gavin and Grayson. Jimmy enjoys attending UT football and basketball games with his family and spending time outside with his sons at his parent's farm. Jimmy is a member of the Knoxville and Tennessee Bar Associations.
